Flummox!

Installation

The archive you downloaded contains two versions of Flummox: a hybrid Color/Monochrome version, and a smaller Monochrome-only version. If you intend to run Flummox on a color-capable Palm device, use the hybrid version.

If you intend to install the color/hybrid version, use the file "Flummox.prc"

If you intend to install the monochrome version, use the file "FlummoxBW.prc"

To install, follow the instructions below:

PC / Windows

PC users should download the .zip file.

First, uncompress the .zip file. If you're using Windows XP, you can open the .zip archive merely by double-clicking. Otherwise, use a program like WinZip or Zip Wizard, or your favorite other Zip utility.

After uncompressing the zip file, double click on Flummox.prc (for color) or FlummoxBW.prc (for monochrome). These will be located whereever you chose to uncompress the .zip file. Next, performing a HotSync operation. That should be it!

If Windows does not recognise Flummox as a Palm Application, then you will need to install it manually. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Start the Palm Desktop. Do this either by double clicking on the Palm Desktop Icon, or selecting Palm Desktop from the list of Programs in the Windows Start menu.
  2. Click on the "Install" Icon, which should be the icon at the bottom of the list on the left. If you don't see icons on the left of your screen, select "Install" under the "View" menu.
  3. Click "Add" in the Install Tool.
  4. Select Flummox.prc for the color version, or FlummoxBW.prc for the monochrome version.
  5. Click "Done" in the Install Tool.
  6. The next time you HotSync, Flummox will be installed onto your Palm device.

Macintosh

Macintosh users can download the .zip or .sit files.

First, uncompress the archive file. Use a program like Stuffit to open the archive.

After uncompressing the archive, double click on Flummox.prc (for color) or FlummoxBW.prc (for monochrome). These will be located whereever you chose to uncompress the archive. Next, performing a HotSync operation. That should be it!

If Mac OS does not recognise Flummox as a Palm Application, then you will need to install it manually. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Start the Palm Desktop. Do this either by double clicking on the Palm Desktop Icon, or selecting Palm Desktop from icon on the menubar (Mac OS 8-9.x), or clicking on the Palm Desktop icon in the Dock (Mac OS X).
  2. Choose "HotSync" from the top menu bar.
  3. Select "Install Handheld Files".
  4. Click on "Add To List".
  5. Select Flummox.prc for the color version, or FlummoxBW.prc for the monochrome version.
  6. Click "Done".
  7. The next time you HotSync, Flummox will be installed onto your Palm device.

Unix / Linux

Lemme get this straight. You're running Unix, and you don't know how to install a file on a Handheld? Right, then!

Download the .tar file or the .tgz file (if you have GNU utilities installed), or the .zip file if you have "unzip" installed.

Uncompress the archive:

Install Flummox.prc for the color version, or FlummoxBW.prc for the monochrome version, using whatever HotSync tool you use:

For pilot-link, you should be able to type "pilot-xfer /dev/pilot -i Flummox.prc".

For JPilot, you should use the "Install" screen, click on "Add" and select the version of Flummox you wish to install, click on "Done" and perform a HotSync.

Uninstalling

To uninstall Flummox is simple, and is done by using the Palm OS software delete. You can follow these steps:

  1. Tap on the Applications/Home silk-screen icon.
  2. Tap on the menu
  3. Under "App", tap "Delete" (or "Delete Apps").
  4. Find Flummox in the list of applications, and tap on it.
  5. Think long and hard if losing all those hours of entertainment are worth the puny amount of memory you will be freeing.
  6. If you really want to delete Flummox, tap on the "Delete" button.
  7. Tap the "Yes" button in response to the confirmation message.
  8. Tap "Done".
