Racing the Rain

— SjG @ 4:55 pm

Prediction calls for a typical January’s-worth of rain in the next 24-hours. The crew probably won’t be back until Monday.

No Rain, More Rafters

— SjG @ 5:49 pm

A normal work day, with a looming rainstorm in the forecasts.

The new construction will cause some shading of the solar panels on the main house during the last hours of sunlight in the winter. The loss probably won’t be significant. The power graph below shows from last Wednesday (the 20th) to today (the 26th). You can see the rain-storm over the weekend. But the relevant detail to compare is the tail on the right edge of the power curve: there was no second story until Friday the 22nd. You can see a difference, but it’s slight (of course, the framing doesn’t cast a complete shadow yet either, but the panels are very sensitive to any shading).

Some rain, no roof

— SjG @ 4:50 pm

The construction got rained on over the weekend, but progress resumed this morning. The beams for the roof are going in. There won’t be a roof by the time the big storm hit this Wednesday, so it’ll all have to dry out on its own.

(2nd) Story Time

— SjG @ 4:59 pm

Today, there was an inspection, followed by rapid framing work on the second story. The tower is beginning to really take form!

This is where I’m starting to realize that none of the architectural drawing really gave me a sense of what the structure would look like in situ, or what the garden will look like. It will be a big change. With any luck, the garden will remain a pleasant place, and the butterflies and birds will continue to frequent it.
